Accessibility Statement

Conformance Status

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, and neurological disabilities.

We are working toward full conformance. A manual WCAG 2.2 AA review was completed on August 9, 2026, covering keyboard navigation, focus management, form validation, color contrast, and screen-reader announcements site-wide. Most identified issues have been corrected; remaining gaps are listed under Known Limitations below.

Measures We Take

EMLAKIE takes the following measures to ensure accessibility:

• Skip-to-main-content link on all pages
• lang="en" attribute on the root element
• Keyboard navigation throughout the site
• Modal dialogs (photo gallery, sign-in, cookie consent, AI leasing assistant) trap focus, close on Escape, and return focus to the control that opened them
• The homepage listing carousel has a Pause/Play control that stays paused once activated, and its navigation dots meet the 24×24px minimum target size
• Status and error messages announced to screen readers via role="alert", role="status", and aria-live
• Closed dropdown menus are removed from the tab order rather than left as invisible tab stops
• Multi-step forms (sign-in/sign-up/password reset, rental inquiry) move focus and validate field-by-field with aria-invalid and aria-describedby
• All embedded map and video iframes include a descriptive title attribute
• Interactive controls have accessible names via aria-label
• Decorative images use empty alt text (alt="") so screen readers skip them
• Form borders and interactive-control outlines meet 3:1 contrast against adjacent surfaces
• Correct heading hierarchy (h1 → h2 → h3) maintained on primary pages
• Reviewed with manual keyboard and screen-reader testing, in addition to automated scanning

Known Limitations

While we strive for full WCAG 2.2 AA conformance, some areas may have limitations. We are actively working to resolve these:

• Listing photo alt text: Property thumbnail images in the landlord dashboard currently use empty alt text. We are working to generate descriptive alt text from listing data (address and property type).
• User-uploaded content: Photos and descriptions submitted by landlords may not always meet accessibility standards. We encourage landlords to provide meaningful descriptions for any images they upload.
• Third-party integrations: Some third-party services integrated into our platform (including Google Maps Street View and the AI support chatbot) may have limited accessibility support under their own implementations.
