Accessibility Statement

Conformance Status

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, and neurological disabilities.

We are working toward full conformance. Some pages and components are partially conformant, meaning some aspects do not yet fully meet the guidelines. Known gaps are listed under Known Limitations below.

Measures We Take

EMLAKIE takes the following measures to ensure accessibility:

• Skip-to-main-content link on all pages
• lang="en" attribute on the root element
• Keyboard navigation throughout the site
• Modal dialogs (photo gallery, save search, applicant drawer) trap focus and close on Escape
• Status and error messages announced to screen readers via role="alert", role="status", and aria-live
• All embedded map and video iframes include a descriptive title attribute
• Interactive controls have accessible names via aria-label
• Decorative images use empty alt text (alt="") so screen readers skip them
• Color contrast meets or exceeds 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text
• Correct heading hierarchy (h1 → h2 → h3) maintained on primary pages
• Tested with axe-core 4.9 automated scanning and Lighthouse accessibility audit

Known Limitations

While we strive for full WCAG 2.1 AA conformance, some areas may have limitations. We are actively working to resolve these:

• Listing photo alt text: Property thumbnail images in the landlord dashboard currently use empty alt text. We are working to generate descriptive alt text from listing data (address and property type).
• User-uploaded content: Photos and descriptions submitted by landlords may not always meet accessibility standards. We encourage landlords to provide meaningful descriptions for any images they upload.
• Third-party integrations: Some third-party services integrated into our platform (including Google Maps Street View and the AI support chatbot) may have limited accessibility support under their own implementations.
